The Spice Madams

SpiceMadam subscription box

I met Meghana at one of the pop up festivals in Dallas.  She and Kim, her business partner and co-founder of Spice Madam, were two bright and cheery people that you couldn’t miss at the festival. On the pretext of being a food blogger and photographer, and potentially interested in their spice boxes I took Meghana’s number. Honestly, I just wanted to be friends with her.

Meghana is one of those people, whose energy and spirit is contagious. Kim shares that same energy and the two make excellent business partners. When we met for coffee afterwords Meghana told me more about Spice Madam and I was intrigued by the concept.

Founded in December 2013, Spice Madam is a global lifestyle brand that brings friends and family together through food. Every month, Spice Madam subscribers explore, discover & experience a different culture through each box. The Spice Madams, as Meghana and Kim are known, create subscription boxes filled with global spices and recipes, music playlists and fun cultural facts. A shopping list & meal plan is included to save time for busy lives and the authentic recipes are researched and tested to ensure that every customer can make them in their home kitchens. I can attest to their recipes- I shot the recipes for their Senegal subscription box and each dish was something I would want to make at home.

June is the month I had chosen to go on a controlled diet. And what would you know it’s here.

Now the thing with me is that I can not, for the love of god, diet. See, I don’t mind slogging it while exercising, but dieting and me have just never been good friends. Earlier this mutual hatred never was a problem. When I would put on weight- one month of rigorous exercise and I would be back in shape. Results with exercise were instant- in fact within a week I would see a difference. But now, not so much. I have been exercising quite religiously for months and still have not seen the results I would like.Of course I do admit things are different this time around.

For one, this time I have really, really, really put on weight. So there is more to shed off than the previous times. For another, (harsh reality) I am older than before. With age also comes slow metabolism. And maybe that’s why the results have not come as fast as before.

This post was supposed to go live a few days back, but since I was out of town and busy attending my friends’ weddings, the post got delayed.

As mentioned previously, I had asked a few blogger friends to help me out to keep this blog a little active while I am away on vacation. The first blogger friend to help me out was Ameena from Fancy That…Fancy This with her mouth watering Mango Tandoori Chicken Pizza. Few days back, Jane from the Heritage Cook shared a fantastic coconut layer cake recipe. Today, its Sawsan from the blog Chef in Disguise.

If you are part of the Daring Kitchen group, I am sure you have heard her name plenty times. My first Daring Bakers’ challenge was her first too and it was a prized challenge, where she got a truly deserved second place.

Sawsan makes lovely middle eastern food (well, actually everything that she makes looks and sounds great). And I love middle eastern cuisine. So when I asked her to guest post for my blog, I requested her to share something that is native to her.

Over to Sawsan and her fabulous dish.
