Buttermilk Biscuits | The Novice Housewife

This post on buttermilk biscuits and homemade egg mcmuffins was supposed to go live on Father’s Day. It even started with this line: “With Father’s Day today, its only apt to post this recipe.”

But as you might have noticed, it did not go live on Father’s Day and instead on a Tuesday which I generally reserve for indian food as part of my Garam Masala Tuesdays series.

It is never to late to honor the special man in our life- who is there no matter what. And I dont need a single day to make my father know how much he means to me. I have mentioned this before as well, he is one person who always goes through my posts. Reads them, comments on them and then later sometimes even talks to me about the post. And no matter how mad he is at my decisions, he is always looking out for me and supporting me the best way he can.

As I started writing this post, I could hear the sounds of fighter planes (going about their routine sorties) in the background. And that was enough for nostalgia to sink in.

My dad is a fighter pilot for the Indian Air Force. My childhood has been spent in air force stations (or air force base as they are called in the US). And growing up, the sound of MiGs up in the sky was a common affair.

Sometimes our dads would have night flying. Those were much anticipated events for the wives and the children as well. For us kids, it meant meeting our friends past the regular day time hours and seeing air crafts take off on the runway at night. A truly incredible sight. Our moms would also pack a little snack or something for their kids and to share with everyone and it used to be a mini picnic of sorts. Those were fun days.

The recipe today has nothing to do with those days. In fact all this nostalgia started after I made this dish and made me reminisce the old days. I thought I would quickly share some of it with you.

Coming to this month’s recipe swap. I was supposed to post this recipe yesterday, as we always do for the monthly recipe swap. But somehow couldn’t.

This time Christianna had given us a vintage Ham snails recipe to play with.

Homemade biscuits with tips and tricks to achieve light, flaky biscuits
UPDATE February 2017: 

The original recipe went live in January 2012. I keep switching between these and the buttermilk biscuits recipe also up on the blog. Both are equally good. I have tweaked this recipe and added some whole wheat flour which was not there in the original recipe. Whole wheat does affect the texture a bit, and they are not as soft as the ones with just all purpose flour, but still these are pretty fluffy and it feels good to know that you are including more whole grain into your diet. Except the first and last photo, the rest are pictures I had shot when the original post went live.

I am two days late.

In posting (before you get the wrong ideas).

I have been slacking with my DB challenges. I was not able to do the last two as I was in India. And this month, even though I could have worked on it, some other things, besides my laziness, kept me busy.

I have been slacking in all my posts and now there is a huge backlog of recipes to be shared. I have resolved this week I am going to try and catch up with some of those pending posts. I will be sharing some seriously good recipes in the coming days. So watch out for this space.
